Default 1982 CE Rear Hatch

I am sure my topic has been discussed before, but I cannot find the forum thread. The rear window hatch on my '82 Collectors Edition (CE) is sliding to the rear of the car. I have tried to adjust it, but the hinges and shims are all the way forward. The problem is causing the usual water leaks and wind noise. I read somewhere a long time ago that the problem may be that the hinges are bending under the weight of the glass and the push of the support rods that keep the window up when it is open. Does anybody know how to fix the problem or where to find the forum thread that may have a solution?

Thanks,
Richard

I talked to a guy at a show once and he took his apart and bent them back and everything was fine again. If you do this you need to be very, very carefull, they will crack or break fairly easy. DO NOT try to correct them by striking them, must use a slow controlled force like a vise. I'd think twice about trying it since those hinges are just about impossible to find, and if you find any they may be bent also!

Default Thanks

Thanks for the link, it was helpful. It is also frustrating. I want to keep the car original, but the hinges should be replaced with much stiffer metal or alloy hinges. Bending the hinges back will not solve the ultimate problem.

Again, thanks for the link.

Richard, here is a link to the CE registry:
http://www.corvetteaddiction.com/82ce/forum/index.php
We have a couple of threads there dealing with the hinges... Get registered and join the crew.

Also, your struts are pushing against the glass all the time, even when it's closed.... Did you put on new struts?
I believe that most of the stretching to the hinges occurs when the hatch is closed, thats when the struts have the most pressure against the glass, and it's pushing it rearward...

Default hinge design company

Do you happen to know the name of the company that designed the original hinges?
