Can someone PLEASE weight a bare trailing arm ?? Inquiring minds (mine) need to know what a bare t-arm actually weights...
...thanks in advance!! ..........redvetracr
The aftermarket offset arms seem to be obviously heavier but much stronger than the original trailing arms,
The offset trailing arms are much wider where they fit into the frame pocket. This gives less latitude for toe-in and toe-out alighnment. If the frame is not bent, this should not be a problem. And of course, if the offset trailing arms are manufactured with the correct dimensions, alignment should not a problem.
The offset arms also have a different location for the parking brake cable flange. This eliminates the possibility the flange will contact the wheels. The stock parking brake cable, and the repro In-Line tube SS cable will fit the new flange locataion.
The Van Steel (and VHP) offset trailing arms have provisions for anti-sway bars (although the anti-sway bars they sell will not apparently fit the wide tires that the offset trailing arms are designed for!!!). Tom's Differential offset trailing arms do not have provisions for anti-sway bars. Guildstrands offset trailing arms are modified stock trailing arms and will accomodate anti-sway bars. Guildstrand's offset trailing arms are about $1000 and Van Steel and Tom's are about $400 (Prices here are pretty much my best guess, so if you're serious you've got to call or look up the correct price.)
