Ever Dye Your Carpet? Advice Please.

I'm going to probably be picking up a '78 this week, and the carpet is in good shape except that it's really faded bad. Rather than buying new carpet, I was thinking of getting some Ritz dye at the store, and use my old paint gun to shoot it. Anyone have any experience with this? If so, I'd love to hear what your experiences are. I'm not planning on keeping the car, as I'm picking it up so cheap I'm going to turn it.

My carpet was in good shape but very faded, gray instead of black. I bought a spray can of carpet dye and used it. Looks great, of course it is hard to screw up black.

I had to re-dye the black on my door panels carpet and vinyl since the carpet was pretty faded but in good condition. I used SEM ColorCoat for the job and was very pleased with the results. Same dye can be used on vinyl and carpet.
