I don't have any experience with True-flex fiberblass bumpers. Can someone please do their best to describe how flexible these are compared to urethane and fiberglass. I'm thinking of putting one on the front of my 81. Or, I might go fiberglass.
I would go with the Tru-Flex. My rear (and soon to be front) is Tru-Flex. It is slightly more flexible than fiberglas, but nowhere near as flexible as the original (urethane?). When you knock on it from the outside, it is a hard shell. Underneath, it's a little "gummy".
The main benefit of the "flex" makes it easier to match-up to the body. It it no-way replicates the originals.
More flexible than fiberglass, but not as flexible as urethane by a LONG shot.
I'm in the process of putting the second rear cover on my '75. The first fit great on both sides. Got hit in the right corner just hard enough to crack the bumper, a urethane would probably just needed to be painted again, a fiberglass would have shattered.
The cover I'm now installing is from the same vendor/maker and it does not fit the same.
Yes, they are "sticky" on the inside and a pain to work with when you are drilling holes and such. This time I sprayed a primer inside just to be able to work without getting "sticky".
Would I install a urethane? NO-NO-NO. They look like crap and are getting more expensive all the time. Maybe next time I'll try fiberglass.
I've heard "stories" about how the front covers are the worst to fit with anything but urethane. Seems to be alot of comments here also about the front covers. Do a search.
