Hypothetically speaking, lets say you had about 55k, or whatever the amount would be, to spend on a '69 vette. Would you rather buy a '69 numbers matching, all stock 435hp vette or one that is really cool, modernized and heavily modified, such as Chris McDonald's?
Have a matching number 71, 425HP stock, and a minor mod. 79 now. I like them both ways (stock & mod), but with 55k I'd take the mod. hoping I could get it a bit cheaper, as I'd need to buy a bed for the garage. Thats where I'd be sleeping once my wife found out.
1 is for investment, 1 is for driving fun..what do you want to do?
If you spend 55K on a numbers matching car, it'll spend too much time in the garage, you'll be afraid to get it wet, yadda yadda yadda. Those cars are for investors, not drivers
Neither, I would buy a 67 Non-numbers matching 427 and drive the hell out of it. With any left over money I would slightly upgrade the handling and get some more HP, retaining the stock favor.
Or I would attempt to find a 70/71 LS-6 for 55k. Should be out there. If I was stuck with a 69,.... an alum headed big block. Put on good brakes, port the head and have fun.
Well, as long as modified didn't mean that it looks like a dogs dinner, I'd go for the one that was reliable ie. the one that I could get in & drive to Spain, or Portugal (or even Scotland!) without having to worry about it breaking on me. I'd want the one that I could use, whether it had matching numbers or not.
That sounds a little crazy coming from me but that is what I would do. I do like the investment angle with stock number matching but that only matters if you think you might sell it some day. Since this is a purely hypothetical situation, I will consider myself to be hypotheticaly financialy independant and pick what pleases my eyes.
