Default Carpet underlayment

I just went through the search to try to find a post where as a member had just replaced there carpet, including jute padding with heat-reflective felting underlayment that they had purchased off of ebay.
Does anyone remember that post. It had pictures including the install of padding in the door panels. It may have been more than one post that I saw it in.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Frank

You may be thinking of a post by Brian Jetter (screen name fjetb). He installed heat shield and sound deadener on his entire interior including doors. I've searched also and haven't been able to find the thread. Are you needing the pics or the name of the stuff he used??

I recently laid a layer of b-quiet (cheaper better version of dynamat, soud deadener) then a layer of the reflectix then the new carpet and padding.

I didn't take any pictures...
Check out this link for what Bob has done.

I have a few pictures I can e-mail if you send me your address. I just installed two rolls of the finest 20 dollar padding you can get from Pep Boys. What a difference. It's much cooler and quieter in my car now.

So if I understand correctly you should first put down Reflectix insulation then your carpet. I notice some POR-15 on the steel floor pan, but I have a fiberglass floor pan therefore I can eliminate that process. Do you glue down the Reflectix insulation and or carpet? Does Reflextix act as a sound deadner also? I noticed that celeryman22 installed both, is that necessary and will it make it to thick?

Thanks

i went with insulation for less, it blocks out heat and keeps sound out. i installed it by shaping it 1st, then applied 3M spray glue and let it get tacky then put the insulation on. i used aluminum tape for the seams. i also used the 3M glue when laying the carpet over the insulation. the stuff worked great keeping roadnoise out, don't know about the heat since i've got sidepipes and never had the hot cockpit problem.

You realy don't have to glue the heck out of the carpet/insulation. A few stratigic spots is all that's necessary. (ESPECIALLY valleys & humps) Interior components also hold it down in spots. Smooth the carpet as you go to get it flat & tight.
Remember...it won't be long before you'll have to pull that carpet back up for a repair, so easy with the glue.
Good Luck

The B-quiet is mainly for sound control. I put a large sound system in my car and didn't want it to rattle, also it blocks out the road noise. The b-quiet is thin, about 1/8" thick. I also used the "bubble wrap" and the new carpet has jute padding here and there. All seems to be going together fine in the car.
