I suppose I could crawl under and count turns, but just for kicks......the original window sticker for my 82 shows a 2.72 rear ratio, but the build sheet shows 2.86. Which should I believe? Just curious..

Good question. I think I'd be more inclined to believe teh build sheet instead of the window sticker. The line workers actually built the car according to the build sheet.
It's an automatic. I thought 2.87 when I wrote this, but for some reason I remembered it showing 2.86. 2.87 is right, tho. I have a clunking (chunk-chunk-chunk, etc.) (mostly on coast) - noted in an earlier post - that every drivetrain shop (and I) seem to think is the diff., but sounds an awful lot like drive knuckle contact somewhere (all new u-joints and wheel bearings). I picked up a rear half of an 80 frame with a good 3.07, so I have a swap available, but after looking at the clearances at the pinion yoke knuckle on the parts frame, I am going to take a close look at the front diff. mounting bushing in my car. If there is ANY play, I could be having slight contact on the top of the mounting bolt if the batwing pivots only a little. I would LOVE that to be the problem, but probably wishful thinking.

Does your car have the aluminum wheels? I seem to remember reading that you got the 2:72 rear if you had the steel ralley wheels with the 225-70R15 and the 2:87 rear if you had aluminum wheels with the 255-60R15s.

Jim, Yes, I have the aluminum wheels with the 60 series tires. I seem to recall seeing that on something once, and checked the original sales brochure which I have and that's what it says, too. By the way, my aluminum wheels got a triple dip of chrome. Lots easier to keep bright. Not correct , but bright.

I am glad you could verify my statment. It's getting tougher to remember some of the more miniscule facts about our cars
I love the look of our wheels with a nice chrome coating BUT I am getting far too CHEAP in my old age to put out the $1,300 requested for them. For now I will just keep on rubbin' on mine with Simichrome Polish!!!!!

Naw. Age hasn't anything to do with it. I'm approaching six decades, and I just refuse to grow up. I also refuse to pay that kind of money for shine - luck has it the previous owner didn't mind.
