Mid life crisis time.
I have always loves to own a vette.
the C3 has always appealed to me especially the convertible.
I have a chance to pick up a really sweet looking 1972 convertible all original , 350 block with matching numbers.
I have searched quite a bit within Canada but have not been able to find first of all a really clean convertible C3 for sale.
I have recently located one on the US east coast.
My concern is am I getting a fair deal at 36k cdn (all costs in)?
It is selling for 26k US which is equivalent to 31k cdn.
After all the transport costs, importing taxes inspections etc... it will probably go up to 36k cdn
other questions I have are:
Do you think a 1972 has the same collectible appeal as a 68-69?
How well do you think a 1972 would hold its value as opposed to a 68-69?
Appreciate all or any comments.
I need to act fast before it goes.
Where is it located? Maybe Fourm member can go take a look at it for you. Corvettes do great in pictures because all the stuff that can rust is hidden. There are a few spots on the frame that are prone to rust and it can get very expensive or time consuming (if you do your own work) to repair up to and including replacing the entire frame.
Yes, the 72 has collectible appeal like the 68-69. Bear in mind, the 72 along with the 71 is a one of the first smog cars and sufferers a bit from that stigma. The 69's and 70's seem to have the highest collectible appeal with the 68's very close, then 71's. The most collectibnle 72 w/350 will be a vert with matching #'s, factory AC, great ext-int color combo like red on red. A nice one should be within a few dollars of a 69 or 70.
If there is no serious rust and the interior and paint are in decent condition, the price is very fair.
Be advised though, that you will be spending some extra money to get it to where you probably would like it to be. We have all been there and done that when it comes to older C3s.
You do have something that you will not cost you a penny more though. And that is the valuable info that you can get here when you need it.
So good luck! And feel free to jump in here with your questions.
26k is a good price for a vert if is in good cond.now u said the car is 1.5 aot of 5 then the car is not in good cond. i just got my vert restored matching # for 25 and is a 4.5 out of 5 (5 being new)
if its close to NJ I'd be willing to look at it for you..like said earlier,,you'll need to check the frame and bird cage areas,,,,not to mention hearing the motor, seeing how it handles and rides. pics can't tell you that!
and if numbers matter,,,you'll need to look closely at the engine pad for verification
as previously stated forget the shiney stuff and focus on the frame and birdcage as they will be big $ to fix. There is a forum member up here who has a very nice looking bb coupe but a rotten frame and who knows what the birdcage would look like. From 10 feet car looks like it could be worth 30 - 35 K cdn as it is nice and shiney but those of us who know it's problems wouldn't give $10 k cdn. which is a real shame because the owner loved that car and spent a lot of $ on the shiney parts. If all checks out $26k is a fair price for a 72 vert. with a base L 48, if an LT-1 it is a great price.
What part of Canada are you from? I ask around some of the guys who rebuild them for you.
