I just noticed a squeaking noise and it seems to be coming from the distributor. Any thoughts as to what might cause this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Internal arcing can cause a squeaking sound...I speak from first hand experience! But on the other hand, if it hasn't been lubed in a while, you might tear it down and check her out.

If it is a tach drive dist., it could be the cross gear or the cable itself.

It looks as if there is a speedometer type cable coming out of the base of the distributor. Also, the squeaking noise is in synch with a fluctuating tach gauge at idle. Hopefully it's something simple and I don't have to replace the distributor.

Depending whether you have a rat or a mouse motor, you might just want to leave him more food.

That's the tach drive. Sounds like you need to lube that cable before it snaps in two.
