From: THE OLDER I GET THE BETTER I WAS! NORTHERN ONTARIO
Just did my 79 over the past winter did all the work my self the best thing to do is find out how long it has not been working...then test the evap to make sure it is not leaking down...if the condenser is still in the car plug & test it as well you do not want to be chasing ghosts when you are ready to put the 134 refridgerant in...chances are pretty good it will need a new orfice tube as well...just the compressor & a couple of hoses should not cost too much since you are in the states...prices here in canada are awful on parts for air. e mail me if you have questions my air horror story is still very fresh in what is left in my mind
The compressor is relatively cheap. My condensor and evaporator were OK, but everything in between was not. It cost me a bit less than $1000 to replace compressor, hoses, drier, etc. I kept the R12. The shop was first-rate and not so cheap. But the system has worked well through 3 hot summers
now i feel the road in my MOMO steering wheel along with the air.
do you have a part number ? Is this box smaller than (or as big as) the standart C3 steering box ? I'd be interessted in better steering "feel" but have to watch my header clearance. TIA
