I have a 73 and am looking to put a new sound system in with no alterations, just wonderring if it can be done and if anyone has any recommendations. I looked through the FAQ section but couldn't find anything. Thanks
Kenwood used to make a nice **** style radio which comes up occasionally on ebay. The KRC-3006 is a two **** stereo that can control a remote CD player.
Personally, I'd try out one of the FM transmitter and a small CD player. I have no desire to fill the luggage area with electronic boxes.
There are places that sell clones of this stereo and you can get it with the Chevrolet emblem.
Look in the catalogs for The Last Detail, Ecklers, Mid America, etc as they all sell stereos that are meant to fit into your bezel without any cutting or modifications, There is one company called "Secret Audio" (not kidding) that has an entire radio and cd changer setup that you install out of the way remotely and is powered by a cell phone type remote control device. Your stock radio stays in the dash and is merely there for looks. Then there are companies that will take your stock radio and beef up and modernize the interior portion so that it looks stock on the outside but puts out more power and can handle cd's, tapes, whatever. In my 68, I am using the FM modulator with a small portable cd player (the type you use when jogging), so that I can play cds without any alterations. It was my son's idea and it is cheap as well.
You have many many options. Try google and I'm sure you will find somehting.

Heylouie,
Be absolutely certain that you save the old stereo and don't sell it in case you want to put it back in if you ever sell the car. I learned long ago, the hard way, to never throw away any used Corvette parts no matter what condition they are in.
