Two questions: #1, Does anyone know where I might find a vacuum diagram? and #2: There has been some discussion recently about how best to strip the paint. I was thinking of using glass safe stripper, but I've heard that it can come back to haunt you later on by messing up the paint. Is there any truth to this?

Thx in advance

can't help with the paint questions, but you can find the vacuum diagram in the assembly manual for the year of your vette. in addition you might want to check out doctor rebuild's web site. his vacuum line kits have a diagram which ,if i remember correctly, is displayed along with the part description. i also think that corevette central has a similar diagram along with the description of their vacuum system parts (all that is assuming you don't have the manual needed).

I used a chemical stripper on my 65, 9 years ago and never had any problems. I dont remember if it was Capt Lees or General Lees, something like that. It has to be safe for fiberglass and this seemed to work very well. Just messy. You dont want to stripp it on Monday and paint it on Tuesday. Wash the stripped panels good as you go, then wash them again, get all the stripper out of all the nooks and cranies in the tight areas and when you are all done let it sit out in the hot sun and dry out for a few days. If I had to, I would use it again on another car.

Thanks all, that helps a lot. I had no idea how rotten my vacuum was until I started moving it around.

John, thanks. I was worried about the chemical soaking into the glass but if I hear you right the key is clean, clean and more clean. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

I watched my painter use chemical stripper's on my car. They said to always use a fiberglass friendly stripper and never let it sit for long. He only did a small area at a time, taped off places they didn't want it to go and they washed the car very regularly.

I have used several of Doc Rebuilds vacuum hose kits and never had a problem with any of them.
