Default Help me please

I am building a sbc 350 from the ground up. I am in the process of putting all of the pulleys on and I notice that my water pump and crank pulleys are not in line with each other. The crank pulley is in toward the motor about an 1/8" compared to the water pump pulley. So I go ahead and put the alternator on and the pulley on it lines up fine with the crank pulley. So I am hoping this has narrowed the problem to the water pump. It's almost like the round pulley mounting plate is not pushed on the shaft enough or something. Have any of you ever seen this problem? Does anyone know what the measurement should be if I placed the water pump on a flat surface and measured from the flat surface to the surface where the pulley mounts to?

BTW, i am using aluminum pulleys but I also have the stock pulleys and I get this problem with both sets of pulleys.

Please help me. It's a short water pump btw.

I have never seen this, but that doesn’t mean that the water pump could be defective. Do you have the old water pump to compare it to? Or you might want to take it back where you got it from and have them compare with there stock on hand.

Vette water pumps are different size. You were probably sold an incorrect one.

Not sure if this will help but when I replaced my pulleys last year I ended up using a shim on my water pump to get mine to line up correctly.

You mentioned aluminum pulleys. As stated above there is a difference in the water pumps, if you are planning on a different set of pulley's other than stock corvette one's now would be the time to address them. This is also true if you have donor brackets from another car. When you start mixing and matching accesories, brackets and pulley's it can make you pull your hair out. Best to have all the stuff you plan on using come from the same place or donor engine.

It's the right pulley. I have both the original and new alluminum have the same problem.

I measured my Water pump and it's not 5 5/8 or 5 13/16. it's actually 5 11/16. It's only a 16th more than the 5 5/8 but that 1/16 would help out.

All I know is I am ready to fire this thing up.

I ordered a new water pump today. Hope this fixes my headache!

Not unless the balancer is damaged or has had some kind of machine work done.

yes, they will sell you a short or a long waterpump, and you need a vette waterpump. i had to wait three weeks to get one from edelbrock with the edurashine coating on it.
