I'm thinking of removing mine to show off my new grills a bit more.....just curious if those who don't have them have noticed any damage to the bezels or headlamps.......
They are on mine. These were factory to protect the headlights while in the down position. I don't like it without them. Looks funny to be able to see the headlights while down.
How is it going to show off your new grills more when they are behind the grill?

I thought it might create a backlit situation, maybe some reflection off the white bezels and the headlamps....dunno, guess I'll have to try it.....
I've still got them on mine. They are full of scratches from where rocks have hit them instead of busting the lights. Also, I don't like seeing the headlights when they are down - they are supposed to disappear!
Here are mine...gone...did it for increased airflow to radiator along with no front plate...Duntov would have grinned at this,as he did not like the flip lights anyway for same reason...AIRFLOW to BB's...
Headlights are more exposed when up....

Um, the C3 draws the air from under the front valance. not through the grills. The headlamp shields are no larger than the front cross section of the lights and bezel itself, so I fail to see how removing them could increase your cooling margin.
Did you actually measure an operating temperature reduction when you removed the shields?
My car is a '69 built on the first day of production (SN - 00035) and it has much smaller shields than a friend's mid year production '69. I'd assume '68s have the smaller ones found on my car.

Certainly...gained 72 sq in just for the front plate, and another 10 sq in from both the headlights....so 82 sq in more area for air to flow with a gain of 5-6 F reduction...means more at speed than city, but every little bit helps...
