Default [NoVA] Steeroids Install on Sat Oct 8th

I am planning on installing my steeroids kit into my 73 this Saturday if anyone is interested in seeing / helping. Never done any steering work before but my guess it is a cross between brakes (hydraulics) and suspension (lots a linkages, joints, etc) work.

If interested, shoot me a PM or e-mail.

Good idea.
I am actually taking the rest of today and all day tomorrow off to finish re-doing the seat covers and put in new carpet. I will start that while I am out there.

I still plan to help out on Sat, I'm actually in the middle of installing mine as well.

Is that necessary for installing the steeroids, this is the first I have heard of it.

Not necessary but chances are you car needs it, not very expensive and takes slop out of the system if the bearing is worn. Not sure if it will work but try grabbing the lower shaft just above the rag joint and move it back and forth (or up and down) to see of there is any play at the end of the lower steering colum.

you don't want any additional slop in the steering column since the steeroids is so good. You only want your intended movements to make it to the rack and pinion unit.

Did you put your car on jackstands and remove the wheels for installation or did you drive the car up on ramps and install around everything.

I drove it up on my ramp structure (12" for the front and rear). I then removed the middle section of my ramp structure and jacked the car up another couple inches to get the front wheels off the ramp structure. Next, I put jackstands under the frame so that the front wheels would be able to be turned freely. I have managed to finally get everything out of the car without removing my headers (looking back on it, it may have been quicker to just remove the headers). In order to do this I had to remove the pitman arm from the steering box so that the steering box could be lifted out of the car. I have not had time to install the steeroids yet, but I hope to be done by the end of Friday so that when I help you I will have a better idea what to do. Also, I have a pitman arm puller and pickle forks if you want me to bring them.

I just drove my car up on the ramps and left it setting on the ramps and worked that way. My reasoning was to help maintain some kind of alignment. After I was done with the install, I wound up using the string to get it close to aligned so I could take it to the alignment shop.
