Voltage at fuel pump question
I have an 82 crossfire that I just replaced the 82 fuel pump with an 85 fuel pump, the old one gave up the ghost and I figured since it needing changing I would do the upgrade. Anyway, teh 85 fuel pump ran for one day and died so I replaced it, (it was free from local chevy dealer) but its still not getting any fuel to the engine and I ran a voltage test and got a reading of 7.5 volts going into the fuel pump. This seems low to me but I have not been able to find anywhere where it says what the voltage should be or even why it would be low if it is. Guys need ypur help on this one not sure whats going on back there but something sure isn't right.

Apparently, you have a ground problem. I worked on an 82 with the exact same thing. It ended up burning three pumps before I was asked to work on it. Once, the ground was fixed, everything worked fine.

It could be either of the wires. Corrosion broken inner wires or loose connections.
I doubt they would make anything less than 12 volts for a motor. The lower the volts, higher the amps. Its always best to run higher voltage and lower amps.
