My 73 Big Block Has Power Steering And No A.c. The Previous Owner Has Indented The Valve Cover To Allow The Altenator To Set Against It . This Does Not Seem To Be The Appropriate Installation. When Checking My Aim Manual All Of The Mounting Brackets Are In The Correct Place. Has Any One Else Had This Problem ? Thanks
This probably won't help since my '74 has A/C, but here are a couple photos of the front mountings. I don't know if they're the same as yours or not.
There are actually three mounts on the top (the third, smaller one is hard to see), and a fourth mount on the lower rear that attaches the P/S pump and alternator to the block and head.
Short belt ? I have a 502,and it is clear..power steering/no A/C..but my alternator runs off power steering pump...
A picture of yours would help....also,where does your alternatior belt run ?
steve's74 is ***** on and that is how I put my brackets on just by looking at his pics. Look at them closely and put your on just like them. go thru mid-america and get all the brackets associated with alternator with power steering and make sure you get the 2 studs with them. one goes in the top bolt for the water pump and the other one goes in the foward most header bolt.
