I have several guys interested in my 71 Convertible, but one guy wants to see the tank sticker. I pulled back the rubber around my gas cap, and I believe I have found it! It's on the passenger's side, right?
I need detailed instructions on how to drop the tank and the best way to remove the sticker. Thanks in advance and wish me luck on the sale! pics of my 71

as for dropping the tank..I read that it doesn't take very long to drop but it does take a bit longer to put back in.
do a search on the forum...there is a whole lot of info already....I was looking at dropping the tank on my vette...but I tried to look for it first (through the filler neck, and using a mirror) and I couldn't see it....so I don't know if I want to bother..
but if you see it then go for it.
i just replaced my tank...no sticker theres four bolts holding the front bar and two bolts holding the tank straps at the rear. disconnect vapor hose on drivers side and all connections to the fuel sending unit...of course if the spare tire carrier is still there you'll have to remove that first...

Thank you,Thank you,Thank you,
I will post what I have after I drop the tank

Mine wasn't in great shape when I found it, but the VIN, engine code, etc. was still readable. Taking it off the tank made it worse (I didn't care as the original 427 was long gone anyway). You may want to just take a good high res digital pic and leave the sticker on the tank.
Why does he want to see that tank sticker? It's a base engine vert, right? Does he want to confirm that the A/C and or power steering was not added on later? If you want to pull the tank sticker, great, go for it, but if it is just this guy's request I would tell him to buy the car and he can drop the tank and get to the build sheet himself.

I agree. I think the guy is just trying to come up with an excuse not to buy the vette. It is a lot of work to drop the tank for this guy to have a look at the tank sticker. BS. If he wants to see it, let him crawl around under the car with a mirror and let him get a look at it. If he is interested in the car he should have no problem doing this.
Your car is very nice and should be an easy sell with out having to go through that gyration.

That's what I told him just an hour ago.
He is still interested, so he can remove it if he wants to

I think it's unreasonable to ask this of a seller. If you already had it off, it would be a good selling tool, but if it's in place, the buyer should drop the tank when he puchases the car.
Brad, nice looking roadster, regarding the tank sticker this is what worked for me(maybe I was just lucky),drove by a 71 coupe just sitting on the side or the road with a for sale sign on the windshield, the only thing I can find that has been replaced is the alt. I believe everything else is original to the car, this 71 is just a real "survivor"I just had a feeling the "tank sticker would be there,I could not see it from the top so I dropped the spare tire carrier and after doing that it was very easy to reach up on the top of the gas tank from the back, after feeling around very carefully I found it next to the gas fill opening on the drivers side,I was very slow and careful and it basically came off real easy, after 35yrs not much left of the glue, got about 95% of it with only a small part of the top left corner missing,it is dirty, fragile and hard to read but I got it.
