Does anyone know where I can get tires wider than 295/50-15 .......
I think I over did it with the ZL1 Fender Flares. And yes, they are Originally from Chevy Flares. I still have 3 inches to put tires to fill them up. And I am not using OffSet Trailing arms.
You'll need 15x12 or 15x14 with a 3 or 4 inch backspace.
Call up one of the race shops that specialize in ASA/ARCA/NASCAR/dirt track/asphalt modifides and get some steel wheels cheap.
Alloys you'll have to hunt around but they do exist
Watch the diameters you'll want to stay in the 26 -27.5" range, you'll also need to watch the section width when going that big. Use the offest to center the wheel in the wheel well and keep the tire off the frame.
For tires you have plenty of choices in bias or radial.
BFG Drag Radials
Michlien TB15 (Z rated)
Hoosier Pro Streets
Procomp Drag Radials
M/T ?
Then all of the old school bias tires that are out there N50-15 and such
Dont use these tires on the street but you can go with Goodyear or Hoosier Vintage Bias ply (NON DOT) tires as well
Well............I was kind of setting it up more for Road Racing, and dont like the looks of Drag Radials. ...I didnt know that the Chevy ZL1 Fender Flares were that much bigger than the AfterMarket Flares. I might go with the Mickey Thompson Sportsman series tires.....they make a 28 in tall 14 inches wide tire........I guess I am going for the Pro-Street Look now........LOL
Your best bet is to go to a 17" wheel. I am installing ZL1 flares and they taper in like yours do in the back (no Eckler type mud flap - YUCK!). I am putting on 12 x 17 wheels and they should fill in the flares. You can get much better tires in a 17" size and inherently better handling characteristics as well. I bought my flares from Mid America corvettes (or whatever their current name is).
