the blades are indeed asymmetrically spaced however the fan is perfectly balanced, there's no one side that's heavier than the others, the unequal spacing is to eliminate resonance at certain rps resulting in excessive wear of the clutch & waterpump and noise. Look closely at your electric fan, chances are it's asymmetrical also...mine is.
Yup - I was under the impression that it is still balanced.
I'll have to look tonight ... pretty sure my electric is all evenly spaced.
caveat: mine is a cheapo fan ... less than $100.
Perhaps it is meant to self-destruct after a period of time.

I always figured it was to slip the belt on easier and allow a bit of space for other knuckle rasping work up there.
I don't see how leaving a gap helps resonance. I don't know of any fans, air props or water props that don't use exact spacing for ballance.
Of course don't mean it aint true.
