Default 350HO, What would you do next?

I bought the 350HO (330hp/380tq) this year and love the power, but....

...I'll eventually want more power.

What do you think I should do next??

- N2O and blow it up
- Stroke it to a 383
- Save my pennies and go for a 502BB??

I would stroke it beofre going with nitrous...power is always immediately available by just simply mashing the go pedal...stroke it up to a 406, skip the 383 if you are going to do it. Heck, I would cut a hole in the hood and put a blower on it like norval did before considering nitrous.

A big block would be nice, but thats a lot of pennies, and thats before you even get into the whole pulley mess and all the other little odds and ends that you will need.

I would go with a hyd. roller cam...and maybe some better heads..should get you to 400+hp easily.

I wouldn't run the N2O! That thing only comes with hypereutectic pistons...oh wait you said blow it up, funny

I vote for bigger cam.
What's the flow on those heads? I bet a head and cam kit could go a long way. Look at one of those matched holley kits.

Would it be worth it to polish/port the heads? I figure if I do that and get a new cam I can be pushing 400hp.

...or are new heads around the same price of machine work to the old heads?

I don't know if i'd invest having work done to cast iron vortec heads. You can get a nice aluminum head at a decent price. If anything, you could get a nice roller cam, change the springs, and full roller rocker arms..that could be a good start to getting near 400hp. I remember reading a mag that had an article where they did a cam swap on this engine, and made like 400hp.

I was gonna call your bluff on the "FINI" comment in your sig.
Never FINI !!!
You beat me to it.

I would enjoy the new motor for at least the warranty period ....
get some miles on it - then stroke or rebuild to higher specs
if you feel the need. Rear gears are a good idea: not too expensive
and it sounds like you are looking to tear the suspension out anyway ... perfect time.

I think the next step is a 383, then one year after that a 454, then 2 years later step up to the 502. Then go with the blower!

I would recomend giving your car to Maymyvetteliveforevr to drive for a couple of months until he's had his fix, then think about putting a O.D. trany with a higher stall speed. This way you'll increase performance while adding to your fuel economy. I'm assuming you have 3.08 gears. After the change over is complete, lend it to Maymyvetteliveforevr so that he may take it for another 2 month test drive.

What are friends for. And Les......it would be my pleasure.

AGVI, Got the same engine as you, and I am thinking of a TKO600 with new rear gears, and maybe even fitting a fuel injection system on it. Let us know what you decide and how much of an improvement it is.

Why spend tons of money building a monster engine that you don't need for everyday driving. The Nitrous is just enough to have fun once in a while.

As you may remember Les, I also have the 350 H.O. In my case the next mods in order are 1)Replace the stock hooker mufflers with something better flowing 2)OD transmission 3)Holley double pumper or Demon carb (Edelbrock 1406 now).
Sounds like your exhaust and carb may be all right so if it were me I'd throw some cash at a taller rear ratio and an OD trans before doing much to the engine.
