Default will 4.5 work?

Folks...found some 17x8 wheels I really like but they do not come with 4" backspacing. Only 4.5" backspacing. Will these work on my 71? What will the affects be to the position relative to the body and frame?

It will hit, more than likely on the trailing arm and/or rear sway bar. A 1/4 in spacer may help. The fronts will probably be o.k.. G/L

4.5" bs and 17" wheel will hit in the back? Is that if you don't move the parking brake bracket?

I don't think the parking brake bracket will hit with a 17 in. wheel.

I'm just suprised because I've heard of others on this forum using 4.5"bs and even 4.75" backspacing without offset trailing arms. It would definitely hit a sway bar though, you're right about that.

The tire size is the concern in the back. A 255 might clear the trailing arm...anything bigger will probably hit, but you shouldn't put anything bigger than 255 on a 8 in. rim anyways.

My 80 with 17" x 9.5" centerlines have a 5" back space. The tires fit good on the front, but on the back I needed a 3/8" spacer to clear the rear brake caliper....which was the cause for me to install
moroso 2 7/8" extended wheel studs. my $0.02
