What's Your Opinion
I thought what hell does he mean SORRY?, but went on talking Vette chat.
I listen to this matching numbers, original motor fight all the time and just don't understand this whole subject.
First let me say I don't have a matching numbers Corvette, but my ride would hold up to any matching numbers Corvette in all areas that count. I have replaced and up graded items that Chevrolet probably would have done had they had the part in 1970 and it runs better and is safer.
Matching numbers freaks are like kids that will pay $100 for a pair of jeans because they have some freaks name on it, but would not buy a pair of Rangler Jeans that might fit better and wear longer and look just as good. It's fine to buy those jeans, but why look down on the guy wearing the Ranglers.
Maybe someone can explain why a Corvette that had a bad transition two weeks after it was purchased and replaced by Chevrolet would be worth less than one with original tranny. It's purely a mind game and those who play than game and look down on others who don't have a numbers matching, should go play with their
own kind and quit trying to justify the silly extra money they spent because it has matching numbers.
Now I think it's fine for those who like to play that game, but sticking your nose in the air like yours is better than others because of a few stinking numbers stamped on the is silly
The Corvette is a beautiful machine for those of us who love them and whether it has matching numbers or not it's still a Corvette. Replacing parts or paint runs because it came from the factoring that way even though a safer part or better paint tech. is available, is very questionable to me at times, but that's fine and I surely don't look down my nose at you for that.
We are lovers of the great Corvette and I think the constant battle is silly. Those who make snide remarks or heckle someone's paint job, wheels or modes to there Corvette on here should remember most put a lot of work and a lot of time into their rides and this is not the place to make fun of someone's work as I have seen in the past.
Sorry to go on about this but I seen some on this forum heckle someone's Vette without any consideration of their feelings and love of what they did to create "their Corvette".
A Corvette is a Corvette matching numbers or not.

Not matching numbers, sorry ??

A so-called matching numbers car can be a totally cobbled together mishmash of fake parts as anything.
I appreciate a truly original car as much as the next guy, but I don't offer condolences to people with restored or modified cars.
SORRY, but an a-hole is (usually..
) not defined by the type of car he drives.

Wait, wait...I'm getting a vision...the gentleman you spoke with at the gas station...was he older? Thinning white/silver hair? Larger than necessary (sun)glasses? "Corvette" ball-cap"? "Comfortable" shoes with velcro ties? Medium to large paunch hanging over his "Corvette" belt buckle? Crusty white stuff in the corner's of his mouth? Denture breath?
Matching #'s =
I have thick hair, albeit a little bit gray
I don't wear sunglasses or a "ball cap".
No Vette buckle either
My shoes are comfortable, Adidas running shoes
No paunch here
Crusty white stuff in the corner's of his mouth? I dont even know what you are referring to here
And, I have all of my teeth
You said, "Matching #'s =
I don't think anyone would say my car is a "rare collector specimen" And Corvettes SHOULD be driven, no offense to the "trailer guys"
I take it your car is not matching #s, if it is I apologize.
I will not belittle you for that, but to suggest because mine is, it should not be driven on the road is ludicrous
I like my matching #s car, and I like updated, modded, and customized C3s as well.
In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
I'm sure those same snobs will always find something to make themselves feel superior to everyone else.
Now last summer brothers neighbor threw a party and had all kinds of cars and bikes. There was a 70 BB vette all original. It was nice to look at but it was nicer knowing my engine compartment looks nice while his only looks original. The simple stamped orange (ugly orange) valve covers is an example. I did my own comparison of what should be changed
I wouldn't mod out a highly valued original car. I would sell it to the boob and use the money on a cheaper version I could use and pocket the excess money temporarily.
For the museum keepers out there... thank you. There should be some around for when they get really old. For when kids see a carb and ask "whats that thing"
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
thats right i said it i love my original steering wheel
im just building my car the way they should have built it back in 76 First let me say I don't have a matching numbers Corvette, but my ride would hold up to any matching numbers Corvette in all areas that count. I don't care what kind of Corvette you drive, just enjoy it
I like 'em all
I, however am partial to my '83
The same is true for me. My 63 is stock except for exhaust and repo knock-offs. All the mods to my 72 are bolt-on or paint, but that seemed to upset one person (it is a rare car). I feel that once you own the car, it's yours to enjoy. We have a common interest in a great car and should have fun with that rather than trying to be superior by putting anyone else down.

Well said
Then, that's what you should own, and leave the matching #s cars for those of us that want them

Well I'm sure that '83 is parts-matching
and a absolute collectors item

I don't have the responsibility of preserving a musuem piece - I can do what I want with it.
I don't know what that is yet, but I do know I'd like it to look stock.
