adding c4 and c5 wheels...I was thinking
Couldn't you have the C3 rotors redrilled for the correct bolt pattern for newer wheels or:
Use a set of c4 rotors? I didn't know if they were very similar in design to the C3's and maybe they would bolt up.
Or maybe you have to use thicker adapters anyways because of backspacing issues?
Thanks for anyone's input on why you can/or can not do this

that's why - the bolt pattern fits, it's only a backspacing issue.
I'm still going to go that route with the wheels and just buy adapters to make it work.
Thanks everyone

If you have the money you can get correct wheels for your car that don't use adapters. Figure on I think $500 for the adapters.
You'll have 1 grand in wheels, not sure what the others cost. That hot rod show guy.

if you spend $500 on wheels and $500 on adapters you can buy custom wheels for almost the same price
Thats what I'm finding out, is that basically the cheapest "factory" C4 and C5 17" polished wheels are running around $560 shipped that I'm looking at.
Adapters are around $130 for four on ebay (if I went that route), but you really don't know what your getting.
^ So thats around $700ish for all that,
then I found some direct bolt on chrome american racing 17" wheels for $769 shipped. (ebay)
crusinchrome.com has the z06 motorsport 17" chrome replica's that are direct bolt on with some moving of the parking brake cable bracket for $1000 shipped.
I think I am goiing to go the direct bolt on route. Way easier.
I found a ebay webpage that has these wheels
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17x8-...temZ8011872969
It says "This wheel size has a 0mm offset (4.50" backspacing) and is a direct fit for 1967-1992 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird."
Fron the looks of it the offset and possibly the backspacing is matched to the original aluminum wheels on my 82, but it has a 5 x 4.75" bolt pattern, it was mentioned above that the hubs are larger on the 5 x 5" bolt pattern. So it may not work?
I didn't know if there was something different on the early camaros that would match up to the c3's.
I emailed the seller and inquired if they could get a pattern to match my vette but haven't heard back yet, But i do know they have the Iroc chrome replicas in 16 x 8 - 20 x 8 in the 5 x 5" bolt pattern so they may have others hopefully, I like thier prices.

Hmm my brother was... they were FREE!
I understand they don't want them and are very cheap, so cheap they don't bother selling them. These are the rather ugly ones.
The other C5 wheel forgot its name, infinity or ? it has the triangular shaped spokes. Still are replaced and might be a better deal than the correct rims.
If you compare proper rims to C5s beware of escallating cost. Almost the same might be 1200 or 1600 or... while with C5s your starting cost is still the adapters, the rims are an unknown.
The big big advantage to proper rims is you get to choose the style.
Coddingtons? I think that was the name.

It's not only the backspacing that can give you problems, the back side of the spokes may not clear the calippers. Less offset (less backspacing) only changes the location of the spokes relative to the rim, it does not change the distance from mounting surface to the spokes. A spacer/adapter however does this, that's one reason why I like to use these. there's a seller on ebay who sells good quality spacers (completevalue). I bought his spacers and they're great.
