Default are flowmaster super40s ONLY black? (answer; YES! )

so I just got my dual exhaust installed and the guy said he put on super40s. My friend says that super 40s are only black (like they appear on the website), but mine are definitely NOT black lol. The guy says that someone had brought in their own super40s last week and they were grey as well. But this is coming from the exhaust guy that also said he used 2.5" pipe when there's only like 6" of 2.5" pipe and that's AFTER the muffler lol. But that's a whole 'nother story. If I find out that he DEFINITELY did not use super 40s, then I may have him redo the 2.25" pipe with 2.5" but if there's super 40s under there, I'll just leave it be. I got a pretty decent deal in my mind, so I won't argue (especially since it's the shop that passes on inspections).

but I digress....... so only black? or black OR grey?

I have super 40s on my '78, and they are grey, He did mention getting them in black but I like the grey better. I had them custom bend the pipes from headers back, all 2.50" pipes. I have been dealing with this guy for a few years and one of the most honest guys and the best prices compared to anyone else.

you may want to go check the part numbers on those mufflers. I talked to flowmaster today and the guy kinda chuckled as he said "no. all our super 40s are black".

so yea... I checked my part number and it's a 2.25" regular 40. needless to say I'm kinda pissed. the guy that did the install is supposedly out of town right now (unless he lied about that TOO), so I'll talk to the owner who should be there. I'll keep you all posted as to what happens with this.

I had my Super 40's putt on last week, and their black! Can I see pics of your exhaust systems guys? Mine was done with 2.5" pipe, but the Super 40 was in 3". It makes a weird sound and I didnt know if that was it. Plus my exhaust sits about 3" from the ground by my axle. Is that normal?

Thanks: Gene.

so I went in and the guy WAS there even though he told me he was going out of town (how many lies does that make it for him?)... so anyways; here's the basics of how the conversation went:

Me: Dude those pipes are 2.25"
Him: Yea. I tried to fit 2.5", but it wouldn't fit through the exhaust holes in the frame.
Me: And those are regular 40s. I checked the stamped part number.
Him: Hmm. They came out of a super 40 box... so what do you want to do?
Me: What can you do?
Him: Do you want a full refund or something?
Me: Well obviously I would, but........
Him: OK. [writes a check for $600] As soon as I write this check, I don't want your business around here.
Me: OK

so I got myself a free exhaust system out of this... and he gets to keep the secret from his boss (I assume that's why he was so eager to write me the check).

so apparently you can't fit 2.5" through the frame? but yet so many people here have... hmmmm... strange LOL

Sounds like he knew he screwed you. So, he wrote you a check to appease you to keep you from telling his boss. He must have done this before. Go cash the check NOW!!!! It may be a lie also.
