I need some idead on how to get antifreez in my motor. I know i am going to get some hell for this but, i have no antifreez in there and i can not start the car because all of my wiring is out since i am redoing it. Can i take the thermostat out and pour it in that way and then fill the radiator to protect it or am i out of luck when the temps fall. Also my starter went bad before all of this too so i am in the process of putting a new one on. And I need some advice on how to route the postive battery cable.
If it were me I would fill through the thermostat housing and radiator and then disconnect the belt to the water pump and try to spin it over for a few minutes by hand just to move the water around.
It seems that way you would get some antifreeze in there. The other option might be to just drain the block and radiator so everything is empty and can't crack from water expanding without anti-freeze. Others may have some better ideas but draining it may be safest.
I may be stupid here but if you don't have anything in there now then what's going to freeze? I don't see a need for any antifreeze unless you have water in there.
I am assuming that you do have just water in the rad and motor now. I am from Minnesota and freezing is not something we take a chance with. I can think of a few things. First I would drain the radiator and fill that with almost 100% antifreeze, I kind of like the thought "ksbunting" said about trying to turn the water pump which would then mix the pure antifreeze withe the water in the block, not sure if that would actually mix it or not but sounds like it might. Lastly depending how you are storing your vette, you can buy a magnetic block heater to help keep the block warm over the winter, but its no guarantee.
Good Luck..
thanks for the replys. I got antifreez in the car this afternoon. I finally got off my lazy butt and finished the wiring and got everything back together along with the starter.
It usually don't but i live on the mountain here in huntsville and it usually stays aout 10 degrees cooler up here and my car sits out side since the prowler and street rod take the garage.
