I'm in the process of replacing all the weatherstripping on my '77 and I've run into a few things that I'm not sure how to handle.
1. the trim around the windshield's paint has worn off. Should I repaint it to the flat black, and if so, what have others used to do this?
2. There was a thin strip of foam between the a piller channel and the other piece it's screwed to -- what do ou replace this with?
3. The blow-out clip was riveted to the channel ...but I'm not sure how to reattach the new one since there is such low profile in that area.
4. The vert pillar behind the driver, there is a "tall" rivet that held the bottom of the weatherstripping there. Should I drill that out and replace it with a screw or something?
I don't want to miss the obvious or let something slip by
I can help you out with a few of your questions. For the trim, there is actually a special paint made for this that holds up really well. Check out you local parts store for some Trim Black paint in a spay can. It has the correct color to it, and supposedly is made to bond to the trim piece. If you cannot find it, stop by a local body shop, and they most likely have a spray can that you can buy. I forget the exact name brand, but I picked some up at a body shop and it worked great.
Regarding the rivet at the bottom of the weatherstrip; I drilled the ones out on my 74 and replaced with a large pop rivet.
