Well, I did it, I'm getting my first Corvette tomorrow afternoon! I posted about it yesterday, and was able to talk the owner down to a reasonable price. It's a 79 L82 spd with working A/C, Gymkhana susupension, aluminum wheels , power locks and windows. It also has the exact mods I would do if it were mine, headers, flowmasters, a bigger cam and a hurst shifter. It's about a 1.5 hour drive from my house and I can't wait, it's supposed to be 77 and beautiful tomorrow, so the T tops are coming off for the ride!. Anyway, just had to post, I can hardly contain my excitement.
My lifelong dream came true 2-1/2 years ago with a $10,000 dollar win from a NJ scratch off lottery ticket. I bought a black/oyster '78 L-82 4speed car and have been smilin' ever since (well most of the time). It was a beautiful sunny cool day here in NJ and I spent most of giving the baby a nice wax job and attended to a couple of little projects I hadn't got to over the summer. Enjoy your car and remember they're most fun when your driving!
Welcome to the c-3 life. My '75 I have enjoyed for the last two years, got it for Christmas '03 !! Sounds like the car you got already has had some of the hard work done. Just remember they are over 25 years old and stuff breaks. You will love it and remember to wave!!

Sounds like a pretty nice car. I was just looking at 79's on Ebay again today. One of these days I would like to get back into another 79-82 vette. Make sure to post pics when you pick it up and give us all the low down on your new toy.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll post pics when I can, I'm still stuck in the stone age with a film camera. Hiway Star, you're kinda scarin me, I'm also Pete and mine is a black L82 4 spd, but with red interior. I realized the other day I was destined for this car. In 83 I built a 1/8 scale model of this exact car (well actually it was a 78 kit), but I've still got the model, I pulled it out the other night. Now I've got to go back and paint the model black and the interior red!
Man i knew part for these things could be expensive, but wow! The dash pad is cracked and a replacement is $500. Now I know it's not a real comparison, but a new dashpad for my 70 shortbed stepside is less than 100! I'm thinking screw the dash pad for now, I'm saving to get it painted so I can not be embarrassed to drive to Carlisle next August. Eveyone I always ride with has immaculate cars, this one definitely does not fit in, yet!
Welcome to the "club". You're gonna have fun. Not only are they fun to drive and look at (and be looked at), but fun to work on (good thing). Lovin' or 82....
Welcome aboard!!
Enjoy your 79 as much as the rest of us enjoy ours.
Hell, I dont even mind a barked knuckle every now and then when I am working on mine.
Welcome and best of Luck! I joined the ranks with a black '79 in August and the forum has been most generous with details on how to keep it runnin'...Oh, and be sure to give it a name (don't ask, don't tell).
Just make sure you inspect everything, specially the rust on frame, BEFORE the money exchanges hands (if it hasn't already).
Welcome to the Forum
I'm seriously looking at one also, a 1970 coupe. I've read that you need to look for rust near where the rear trailing arms mount and also behind the kick panels where the frame mount is. Is it much of a hassle removing the kick panel to see the metal? I want this guy to do it for me before I go driving all the way there to look at it. Any other rust areas to look out for? Thanks, and I hope to be joining the Owner's club here in the next week or two.
