Default Changing differential fluid..best when hot???

Last night I had my rearend on ramps. Took off the spare tire carrier, removed the bolt and was about to pump out the old fluid. Two questions popped into my head. Is it more difficult to remove the fluid with the rearend only jacked up? And should the fluid be warm when extracting?

I have read in a corvette resto book that they rec that the fluid be hot. If you give me a day, I will look up the title and page # for your reference. The photos are mainly about a british guy (I think) doing a c3 big block.

the books title is "Chevrolet Corvette Restoration Guide" by Lindsay Porter - published in 1996 by MBI. The specific reference is on page 172.

I agree that the warm fluid flows better and the lower viscosity allows more of the oil to be pumped out.
