Will a hard top fit all convertibles or did it have to come with one to put one on it?
Is there a good place to get a hard top for a 72?
Do they make aftermarket hard tops?
Thank you for your help and advice.
I don't know if there is an aftermarket hardtop but any 68 thru 75 hardtop will fit. The only differance being from the factory or not is the factory hardtaops had a small attchment bolt in the middle below the rear window. Factory deck lids were drilled for this bolt. If you find an original factory hardtop you can remove this bolt or drill the hole and get a bezel for it.
I like the look of the hard top and because it's there to want.
Top looks great but I am just now looking at the car to buy so I'm not ready for the top yet and I'm in texas.
Why are there so many corvette guys in NJ?
Half the cars I look at are there.

Just a note, not all years had the center bolt. I have a 69 that has the factory option hardtop that has no center bolt. My car is optioned with both hard and soft tops.
as others said, any '68 - '75 hardtop will fit.. I'm actually planning on picking one up at the Orlando NCRS meet... The expensive part about the hardtops is shipping. If I buy it in Orlando, I just put it in the back of my pickup truck and I won't have to pay for shipping..
as I was having the body stripped and repainted anyway on my '74 'Vert (top I got was from a '73 but as others have said anything from a '68 to '75 would have fit ... '68's didn't have the chrome tips at the rear corners but they can always be added later). Bought mine on eBay and went out to OH to pick it up from IL. I really liked the look of it on a 'vert versus the "sugar scoop" look of the t-top coupes. The tops aren't cheap to restore (mine needed new gaskets all around, re-dye the inside panels from black to tan to match as well as a refinish & respray but its turning out great). It's rare to find one that doesn't need something updated and you'll also find some that are covered like an old style vinyl top (like the one above in the link ... GREAT price by the way)! In the long run you'll get a bit of your investment back as most value guides would have you add about 5% to the overall value if you have one. Your best bet is to find one when you buy the car rather than after the fact (if possible)

Original hardtop cars also have 2 attaching points on the inside of the decklid. You can see one of them here, look above the seatback.
While not necessary for driving around town, these attaching points will keep the top from blowing off at highway (or higher) speeds.
