I'm in the process of painting my chassis.I have all the parts disassembled and I will start blasting as soon as I buy paint.I want to stick with spray cans because I'm only doing a little bit at a time.I looked in Eastwoods and their Chassis Black was about $12.99 a can . I was wondering If anyone has used Krylon ? It's only $4.86 for the same size can. Is Krylon a good paint ? What about Rust-oleum ?
I used some of the NAPA brand paint that they claim to be extra heavy duty. Seems to have worked out allright, but I only used it on small parts. All the major components were powder coated. Chassis black is really no different from anybody's semi-gloss black.
Are you going to POR-15 ?? then top coat it with the factory looking semi-gloss? (although POR also makes a semi gloass black that looks very similar to factory chassis paint)
Have done several Chevy truck chassis over the years, and used Krylon w/excellent results. Wire brush, sand, sandblast...what ever you have to do to get rid of the junk. Use metal etch, and then the krylon. NOTE: you should be able to get the Krylon cheaper than $5 can.
I read a tip from one of the Vette Magazines about a paint from John Deere. It is a very tough semi-gloss black. Most semi-gloss paints will look spotty if you paint a large area. This paint looks even and looks exactly like the factory color.
The name of the paint is called Blitz Black. Most people who try it love it. You can get it at your local John Deere dealer.
Hope this helps.
