Default Flywheel questions ?

If using factory style flywheel a scatter shield is a good.
Here is the question.
Do the following flywheels explode as the factory style ?
When using a steel flywheel do you need a scatter shield ?
When using a aluminum flywheel do you need a scatter shield?

A scattersheild is like insurance. You hope you never need it but your glad when you need it. The stock cast wheel is the most likely to come apart. They can all come apart though. Even the clutch disc or pressure plate can let go. I run one because I like my feet and I abuse my clutch.

I agree with Gordon, clutch discs have been known to shatter and come up through the floorboards. The blow-proof bellhousings are a good bit heavier than the stock aluminum ones but trust me you don't want your feet above an aluminum bellhousing if a clutch or flywheel decides it wants to let loose.

Something like a $300 Lakewood steel bellhousing is a lot of peace of mind for relatively little cost (compared to paying for leg trauma surgery, that is).

Some of the postings have stated that the McLeod scatter shield is more accurately drilled to mate to the engine block. The Lakewood installation procedure requires aligning scatter shield to the block using a micrometer to index the crank flange. Supposedly the McLeod, like the factory cast aluminum bellhousings, can be just simply bolted to the block. Anyone have any actual experience with alignment of these two shields?
