A Porsche club was having a autoX event today and said everybody is welcome. So I went. Of course there were many Porsche cars there and some C5s one C6 and a few C4 cars. I was the only C3 there. I got a lot of "you running that today" or "that is to nice to run". By the end of the day I had everyone saying how much they enjoyed watching the "old" car run. I got many compliments on the car and many Porsche owners really enjoyed watching my car. The starter said as I pulled up for the first time "you gonna light em up. I said no thinking he would be mad if I did. He said show these German cars what some American muscle can do. That is all I needed. It was not the way to start but the crowd loved it and he thanked me on the next run. I was much better taking off form there on out. Not to say I was not sideways a few times during the course but the "old" car put up some numbers that were pretty close to the new Vettes and Porsches. I am by no means any good of a driver but I sure had fun. No awards because they lumped every non Porsche together but I was respectable. Pretty much a 1st gear course and I was hard on the rev limiter (7000 rpm)at one point in the course but 2nd gear would have only been for a split second. There were a few pictures taken by others and if I get them I will post. You gotta drive these things like they were meant to be driven. I envy you guys who have bigger tracks nearby. Everything came home in one piece so it was a very successful day.
Gordonm, I know you have power mods (headers, heads, cam?) but what handling mods do you have? Anything besides wheels and tires? (Do you have 17" now?). Nice work!

Nothing fancy. VBP 550 front coils, 1 1/8 sway bar, urethane bushing throughout, 330# fiberglass rear spring, Smart struts, Bilsteins all around, 3/4 rear sway bar and 17 inch 255 45 17s all around. Almost forget the VBP spreader bar in the front.

Makes me jeoulous now.
Ur having way too much fun in that vette Gordonm. Leaving the imports in ur tires smoke and running 12s at the strip is really getting ur moneys worth.
That's great Gordon, it's hard to believe that there's area's that still have autox's in November, we usually have our cars put away for the year by now. Sounds like you had a great time and a cool gang to run with
Please check to see if your wheels flexed enough to rub the brake calipers. I had that problem with my '79 with 17 inch TTII's. Your car is a good bit lighter than a '79 so it may not have been an issue.

I just went out and looked atmine. The wheels would have to flex quite a bit to hit the calipers. My calipers are painted black so any rubbing would show up. No rubbing, I have a decent amount of clearance from the caliper to wheel.
Maybe it's different offsets or Chevy changed the brake mount points slightly. My brakes are painted red so it was easy to see the lines where the wheels had rubbed. I just measured my wheels at .22 inches of clearance.
My autocrossing days are over until I buy a more sturdy wheel for such activities.
Real rough measurement here. A bolt that is .308 diameter will fit between the front caliper and wheel with a very slight room to spare. The rears will not fit but not by much. It seems I have a little more clearance than you do. I would estimate the fronts at about .320 and the rears around .290 or so.
