'76 distributor shield - how important to have?
The L-48 on my (hopefully) soon to arrive Canadien souvenier is sans distributor shield over the HEI.. Is it something better to have than not? What parts are there to it (brackets, hardware)?
I think that it was there to reduce noise in the radio. There isn't much to it. Basically one flexible piece that attaches to the fire wall. That's how it is on my '81 at least. I can't tell the difference when it's on or off.
Unless you're trying to make it look original, don't bother with the shields.
Most spark plug wires already have EFI suppression, which cut down on the radio noise interference.
I had an '84 Ford F150 that had problems with radio interference on the FM stations; turns out it was due to old wires and a shot rotor, cap, & points/condenser.

I have mine on for looks only, along with the chrome tubes that go down the left and right sides that have the wires inside them.
I get no static on my stereo but I never drove the car without the 3 shields on so I really dont know if it makes a difference or not.

I removed mine, but I don't have a working radio either. The 76 had a chrome shield that attaches to brackets on both sides. The brackets attach to the intake manifold.
