Just bought my first vette - a '72 coupe. Flying down to California on Friday to pick it up AND drive home - 1,000 miles North to BC. Any advice on what I might do to protect the front - ie bumper and nose from all those semis on the I5 kicking up rocks etc.
Thanks
I drove my '69 from Pittsburgh to Southern California when I bought it...nothing happened to it and it was a 2700 mile drive. Just enjoy the ride and be safe
I wouldn't buy a black vinyl bra, but then I'm biased. I install paint protection film for a living. Look into PPF for the Vette and my preference is for Ventureshield as it comes on 48" rolls so you can cover a decent area on the front. It's the clearest and will stretch around the curves with out joins, unlike the other brands.
Have a look at my website to see whart can be done
Oh, and don't let the installer cut the film on the car
They can scratch the paint every time they go on and off.
The one on my C3 came with the car, and it's only still on the car because it's holding the bumper together.
My recommendation for preventing rock chips from the big trucks? Hang back a good distance, or get in front of them. That way, they won't kick them up at your car. Won't be easy to do that on the way up, since a good portion of the drive is just 2 lanes, but keeping your distance will prevent the rocks from damaging your paint job.
And slightly off the topic of a bra:
Since you'll be going from SoCal up the 15 to BC, WATCH YOUR SPEED THROUGH VICTORVILLE!!!!!
Victorville is known as a speed trap on the way to Las Vegas; if the speed limit signs say 45, don't go 46! They'll write you a ticket in a heartbeat.
NO BRA!!! I saw a car that had a bra on. When they removed it, the paint was sanded down to the metal (not a corvette, thank God) from all the grit that gets under it. If you do use a bra for long trips, remove it right away when you get where you're going. Do NOT leave it on!
Like the poster stated above, the best solution is the clear stuff (like Scotch tape ). Every bra I've seen, expensive or not, eventually ruins the paint.

Lets just leave the bras back in the 80's where they belong!! I have yet to see a cool car drive down the street with a gaudy bra hanging on its front nose!
The only time I would use a bra on a car is if the front end had some type of paint damage that you were trying to hide until you could get it fixed.
Otherwise from my experience they will cause more harm than what they are supposed to protect from.
On my 1986 Vette I had some scratches on the front bumper. I bought a bra to cover that up and drove it from San Jose to Los Angeles and back. When I went to wash the car after my trip home, the bra scratched up the bumper worse than the original problem. Now I have to leave it on to hide the problems that it created.
