70-72 Exhaust Tips
I have been thinking of upgrading my exhaust to a non stock style mufflers. My question is, are there different sized exhaust tips. The inlet on the stock style tips are 2 inch and what I have now. I do have 2 1/2 inch exhuast all the way to the mufflers but 2 inch tips. I am guessing this probably chokes it some.
A couple of years ago I came across a thread where a guy had cut the square tip out to fit the 2 1/2 pipe. A bit of work, but probably not that much of a change in appearance.
I had my tips redone. The muffler shop was able to heat up the 2 inch piece of pipe going into the square part. He then was able to knock out the 2 inch section. Took a grinder and opened up the hole to 2 1/2 inches and welded in the 2 1/2 section. Looks factory original now. You would never be able to tell. I wanted 2 1/2 all theway out also. I'll see if I can find a picture of it.
Here you go
Gordon, IIRC, you have Flowmaster Delta 50's? How do you like them? How are they when in OD running about 1800~2000RPM?
Not bad at all. I get a little resonance at about 1500 to 1700 rpm but it is not bad. I usually will not go into OD unless I can run at 1800 or above, prefer to run at 2000 and above. I don't make much power down low but it really likes 2200 rpm cruising. I have had many compliments on the sound of my car from idle to 7000 rpm. At the AutoX last weekend I had many say how good it sounds through the course.

Since you are on-line with me, did you get center inlet and offset outlets? I can see the offset outlet in your pics.
I am full of questions. Did you buy the mufflers locally or from Summit and have them installed?
Center inlet, offset outlet. The bracket for the hanger is a custom hanger they made. It is much more rigid than the factory one and the whole system is a lot tighter than the factory one was. If you want any more pictures I can take them.
WOW Gordon! You were really running skinny tires back then!!
I took my 68 to the same shop that did Gordon's. I wasted a lot of money on parts and tons of effort trying to bubba my own exhaust system. These pros did a great job. They did a similar thing with my 68 tips: They just cut off the 2" section and welded the tip to my muffler, making the whole thing 2.5".
