It looks like I'll be picking up my vette using my Sierra and a rented open car trailer next week. I figure I'll need:
- 4 10K rachet straps
- Assortment of boards in case the ramp is too steep.
- Jumper cables
- Hydraulic jack
- Trailer plug adapter
- Tools including lug rachet and cheater bar.
i rented a u-haul when i left IA - car loaded fine, fit well, and the tire hold down did a fine job..
I'm crossing the state line and U-Haul won't rent to me except one-way. I've also noticed that most all of the U-Haul units are beat to death. I found a local hardware store that rents nicer trailers, cheaper.

Anything else you can think of?
* A spare tire that'll fit the trailer would be a good thing ( a loaner from a buddy ? ).....
* various lengths of chain, and various connectors, like screw-pin clevis.....
* a few blocks of wood/railroad ties, to serve as wheel-chocks.....
* flares, flash-lights, or various road-side emergency tools.....
* electrical tools, and spare light-bulbs for the trailer..... in-case the trailer needs re-wired while on the road.....
A word of caution about those U-Haul car trailers.
The wrap around the tire tie downs Will Not Stay On on the larger tires. They will slip right off and allow auto to move around. I know first hand.

On the 10K rachet straps, be sure to use the kind that have a locking hook not just an open hook. If the straps stretch a little as you hit bumps (and they will) they can come completely loose if the hooks are open (ask me how I know).
Thanks for the good suggestions. The trailers have a spare, but I have to call whether the left fender folds down. If not, I may have to make a nascar exit. Another forum suggested a spare fuse for the trailer circuit. I'll have to check my supply of spare fuses or buy another. A come-along and bridle is a great idea - but I really shouldn't need it since the car ran great last Friday.
Air tank with air in it! Great for those low tires or slow tire leaks that develop as you drive. Excellent idea above re wheel chocks and boards for ramp entry--there have been times when I needed both items.
