Default Help with engine codes

Hope some of youcan shed some light on this subject. I realize there are 2 sets of ID codes on a 1968 327. My question is are they two different sizes? It seems like the 1st set of numbers are alot smaller. I have looked on a couple of other vettes and some are all the same size. Just want to make sure that before I purchase this car that it is the real deal. Any help would be appreciated.

19s420350 are smaller than the vo328he

On my 1970 they are all the same size. Thanks for any help.

First let me say that I'm no expert, but this site should help you.
http://www.mortec.com/

19s420350 = partial VIN number

V = Flint Mich. plant
03 = March
28 = 28th day
he = don't know exactly...has to do with the options such as engine, trans, body.

Check the numbers on the back rail of the bellhousing for casting numbers.

Good luck,
Jeff

The VIN number says this is a Chevy engine put in a 1969 with serial number 420350.

The Engine number "V0328" says it was built in Flint, MI, March 28, and the "HE" says it should be item number two below.

FY RPO Stamp CID Appl HP BBLS Body

1965 HE 327 m\t 300 4 Vette
"1969 HE 350 Powerglide 300 4 A F X"

As far as sizes, the engine stamp is put on at the engine plant. The VIN stamp is put on during assembly. The sizes can be different...

The larger stamping was put on at the engine assembly plant. It includes a letter code for the specific engine assembly plant that built it, the month/day and the last digits tell you the "broadcast code" of engine which indicates the intended application for that assembly.

The smaller stamp was put on just before the engine and tranny were installed into the car at the vehicle assembly plant. This stamping uses the year, vehicle assembly plant and the last few digits of the VIN for the car it was originaly installed.

Thanks for your help guys. There seems to be alot of people doing dishonest things with cars now a days and since I'm no expert, and read about people thinking they have the real deal only to find out it's not, you have been a great help. Thanks again
