I'm new to this forum, and it seems that you guys have the best knowledge when it comes to purchasing and maintaining a Corvette, so I had to join I'm doing a preliminary search to find a suitable C3 project cars in the US, Canada or even Europe, but don't know where to look (I'm from Finland by the way).
What I am most likely looking for during next spring is a 197X-78 C3 with good and straight frame, front and rear suspensions, preferably with some sort of engine and transmission (either manual or auto, does not matter). Body and interior may be damaged or otherwise in crappy shape. Any advices where to look for these kind of cars?
I've recently bought a '76 vette in Poland and while I was looking for vettes I realized that American ones are cheaper than 'European' but transportation and taxes are very expensive, so first of all I recommend you to look at European web pages www.autoscout24.de, mobile.de, markplaats.nl This way you can see the cars without spending a lot of money...
ebay. Just look for one that claims it's in "better than perfect condition..."
I think Ebay can be used as a reference on pricing, But I would not buy a car off ebay sight unseen. I did find my car on ebay, but it was local, I called the guy up and went to see it. Ended up buying it after it did not meet the reserve. Ebay can help you find cars in your area.
EDIT: WHOOPS! I didn't catch the Finland reference in the first read.
Probably not going to find any near you on Ebay.
I have found this forum to have many helpful and friendly people.
You could probably talk someone into photographing a car for you if you found one in their area.
Thanks everyone, I checked out several sites, but like kilroy1024 said, pretty slim pickings Good thing I'm not in a hurry, but rather doing a preliminary search (as I stated in the beginning).
About prices, of course the price range varies greatly, but could you give some sort of guideline for me? And I'm not looking for a good example, but I want a project car (a basic vette, not a rare one or anything special) with good, straight and rust-free frame and preferably with a damaged body and interior. How much should I pay for this kind of project?
I've seen project cars from $2000 - $3000 locally....but only one C3....it was a mess....and getting parts to Finland to support that would be expensive/time consuming...
What price range are you thinking ? A running version may be around $5000 or so....some of us could keep an eye out and send photo's...????
This would be the price range that I am most likely looking for.
and getting parts to Finland to support that would be expensive/time consuming...
This is not so much of a problem, there are a number of finnish guys in the US who collect and send project cars to Finland in a container for customers.
A running version may be around $5000 or so....some of us could keep an eye out and send photo's...????
A running version is most likely not needed, since if I go ahead with my project next year, the engine and powertrain is rebuilt (replaced if I can fool the authorities here) anyway.
All tips are of course welcome, and of course I'll check local cars as well. I'm just checking the availability worldwide at the moment
Ok....I knew of a 78 that met your criteria.....I'll check on it's availability....engine was not all together but parts were in boxes...think they wanted $2500....friend seen it...
