Default Birdcage?

As a new Vette owner, what is the "birdcage" I hear mentioned here on occassion? And what are the problems associated with it?
Thanks

The birdcage is the cage that surrounds the passenger and driver compartment. It includes the windshield frame and decends down into the kick panels continues below the doors and then goes up and over the drivers head in a coupe or up the back of the door frame on a convertible.

Many times it rusts in the windshield frame especially in the corners or at the base behind the kick panels. Repairs to this area can be expensive and difficult. If you see a car with these type of rust issues you need the look real close and understand what is entailed in the repairs.
