Default Radiator Water

Anyone know where one buys distilled water for the radiator?? I read all the time that this should be used but I've always used tap water. Just fixed the rad and I thought I would start off right this time.

At the grocery store you can get demineralized and distilled. I keep a gallon in the garage for whatever need arises.

Use DISTILLED water, not tap water.

This is the back side of a water pump that we just pulled off of our '67 Jaguar E-Type. The previous owner ran tap water and coolant in the car because he believed the tap water here in San Diego was "clean enough."

The water pump was actually clogged with particles and wouldn't leak through the bearing failure holes, making us think that the pump was ok. However, we'd rev the engine and could see the pulley moving up and down in time to the revving of the engine. This also caused a "pinging" noise, which was the impeller rubbing up against the housing.

RUN DISTILLED WATER!!! And flush your system frequently to prevent breakdown, corrosion, and clogging.

BTW, like the previous posts said, distilled water can be found at your local supermarkets, WalMart, KMart, Sears Essentials, Target, etc., usually located in the beverage aisle.

I totally agree on using distilled water.

Im just curious as to how long that water pump was on the Jag? If you flushed your cooling system every year I wonder if it would be as bad?
