Default windshield frame/ birdcage replacement

I took the dash out today and the windshield frame is in pretty bad shape. I am not shocked I could see some rust around the windshield when I bought it. I can buy a used frame that goes all the wy to the frame. what has to be done to replace this, the front clip and dash are already out. does the body need to come off?

Depending on how bad the rust is you might not have to replace the whole front of the birdcage. Repair pieces for commonly rusted areas are available from several of the supporting vendors. If you want to replace the whole front section you will have to remove the front fenders, etc., which is a lot of work. You don't necessarily have to remove the body but if there is a lot of water damage the body mounts in the front kickpanel area may need some work. Post some pictures of the frame and some of the restoration experts here will chime in.

Default update

I took the windshield out today and it is not as bad as I thought, I can repair it. it needs the top rail and the top corners, the rest can be patched with new metal welded in. for the amount of rust I have the frame is still remarkably strong. there is quite a bit of steel in those side pillars
