Default Unsercarriage Refinishing

I am in the process of refinishing and repainting the back end undercarriage of my 77. It appears the both rear inner fender wells were undercoated and the sides of what I am calling the outside of the rear storage compartments and the backs of these compartments were just uncolored.I have degreased everything and repainted everything except these compartments with por-15 semi gloss black My question to you guys should these remain natural or do most of you guys paint them black also? This is just going to be a clean restored weekend driver.

I do not think it matters since you intend for it to be a weekend driver. I have seen cars done both ways and I like them both. However, I prefer painting the area you are referring to satin or semi gloss black. I did mine that way and I am very pleased with the appearance. I think the factory should have painted them.

If you already have the area clean, paint it as suggested. The semi gloss finish makes it harder for dirt to stick and easier for future cleaning. A flat finish does not provide this advantage. For anything not NCRS, paint is a functional and attractive addition IMO.

Undercoating the fenderwells serves a purpose...protects the panels from stone kicked up by the tires....you may regret not applying the undercoating sometime in the future...

I painted mine recently with Rustoleum Semi-Gloss black and really like the look. It gives it a "finished" appearance. I'm working on painting the frame (body on) also. Good Luck!

I used high temp flat black on the underbody including the engine bay. Figured with exhaust running down there might be a good idea. Plus, my frame is gloss black, so it adds some contrast.
