I have a 68 and in the inner door jam towards the rear on the bottom there is a goop of some sort of sealer running across the bottom, I looked on my 71 and they replaced the goop with a rivited plate. There is no seem there, does anyone know why this is there and what purpose it serves. The goop looks really tacky and I have removed it while stripping the paint.
Steve,
I have a 68 (since 72) and I don't have any of this goop you are referring to and I am second owner. Is it possible a prior owner put it there to stop some type of water leak? Have you any pictures of the goop and exactly where on the door jamb it is? I am curious.
Kurt
I don't have a pic since I already removed it. If you look at the bottom of the jam towards the back there was a sealer of some sort that ran from the outer jam to the inner. My buddy has a 69 and he has it also. If you look at a 71 they put a plate there with a rivits there. Looks like someone removed yours also, which I agree with since it is an eyesore, maybe not correct but it is an eyesore so I removed it.
Are you sure it isn't a water diverter?
I can't see where anything was removed from mine and the entire car was just stripped and repainted a few months ago and I am the guy who stripped it and I don't see what you are referring to. Maybe I am not looking in the right place.
