Default Rhythmic chirp noise

I've noticed this before but now it's getting louder. I get a rhythmic chirping sound that grows to a near whine at speed. I don't believe it's the brake rotors or wheel bearings, but what about the mechanical speedometer cable? Can it be lubricated? This sound has got me worried.

Usually if it is a brake wear indicator, it will stop when you engage the brakes. If it is the speedometer cable, it can be lubricated - like most things on corvettes, it isn't easy. I had my cable lose from mine a couple of months ago, and sprayed some (I think white lithium) lube in the housing of the cable. Used the same on my mechanical tach cable.

Good luck solving the problem.

If it sounds like a cricket on speed it could be u-joints on the half shafts, that's what mine was. If so I recomend Dragvette.com to buy half shaft replacements worked out great for me.

With windows up and radio off I really think it comes from in front of me and it's directly related to vehicle speed, but I suppose that could also mean u-joints. Looking from underneath, are there signs of excessive wear that I'll see? That's easier for me to check on and deal with than lubricating a mechanical speedometer cable. I feel like I need to take care of this noise.

I get a little chirp chirp also... sounds very birdlike. I have always assuemed it was the speedo cable. Totally speed related, shift into neutral at speed and it still chirps.
