I had a professional mechanic remove my stock rearend in my '77. He put in a Richmond 3:70. I now have a terrible whineing sound at any speed that drives me and the passenger nuts.
Most of the whineing sound disappears if I take my foot off the accelarator. The new rearend has been in for months and NOT getting any better.
The car was so quite before the new install and a pleasure to drive.
Of course, the guy who installed it, is now out of business!
Any idea what could be wrong. Do I have to get another rearend?
Richmond gears can be a hassle to setup. Might be wrong setup too. You don't need a new differential, rear end maybe
I don't know if you saw the post I'm running now on this job but here it is,hope it helps.

don't drive with your foot on the acclerator.
you're screwed. Might try some really thick oil to quiet it some. Goop it up with some STP. Might as well try. Its not like you care if you burn it up.
