Trans fluid check
I'm one of those few crazy people that decided to have an old Vette rolling on Italian roads. I say crazy because of two reasons:
First, you have to be crazy for starting the fight with tons of Italian laws and low-brained govern officiers that makes getting a registration plate something similar to an "arcade" game;
Second, of course, all of us are crazy for the Vettes.
So, I'm new in the forum and I hope to have some suggestion and clarification not easy to find in Italy where, unfortunately, US car culture is very low.
Let's come to first question;
I have a wonderful 75 Stingray with TH400 transmission - I know many of you hate auto trans on a Corvette, but here we feel the auto trans very "US fashion"- I have also the 75 Corvette owner manual, where is written that Trans fluid level has to be checked with engine hot, running, and after shifting in/out all positions.
I red somewhere, I don't rememeber where, that it is also possible checking the ATF level with cold engine following this procedure:
- start engine
- shift in/out all trans positions, then put in P
- immediately read trans dipstick
- if level is shown at half inch below ADD level is OK
Does someone know if this procedure is correct too?
Second question;
If the ATF fluid level is checked with engine not running and cold, is it normal to get a reading one inch over Max?
Thank you for any comment
