What would be the first things i should repair on my '76 vette, if i plan to sell it as an investment (engine or interior/exterior). Im planning on selling my '76 and getting an older year. What restorations would add to the value as opposed to mods that will decrease it. I recently got a new exhaust system, side mounted with high flow cats. Will this decrease the value of my vette? thanks.
Unless the car is in really bad shape I'm not sure how much return you would see out of any of your repair "investments".
As far as what would decrease the value of the car, it depends on whether the car is mostly original or not. Do the numbers match? If so then leave as much of the car stock/unmodified as possibe. If the numbers don't match then it doesn't matter nearly as much.
My $0.02 get the car roadworthy, in good running condition and with a mostly intact interior and then sell. Anything more and you won't recoup the costs of the repairs, anything less and you won't get a decent price.

I 2nd that it should be roadworthy. I'd check all the suspension, alignment etc. Once that is good, id make sure engine/tranny was in good operable condition. Then worry about the "looks" last. But why get rid of the 76? - just me talking I like my 76, had all the creature comforts of newer cars, looks of the older years (sans the chrome bumpers) and still had teh Stingray on the fenders!
When I looked for my car, I looked for a car that drove/felt good 1st and looked good second.

you should only repair items that effects its a ility to start, run drive and pass inspection.....these cars are horrible investments and don't expect to make any money on what you put into it
