First off let me say hi neighbor 
, The holes in the side of the heads were the original places for the water temp sender, or other temp sensing devices, forgot what the one that goes on the passenger side head was used for.

I've got my mechanical water temp sensor in the head, the other head has a plug. My electric fans run on-off from an intake sensor.
