Default the trailing arm gods spared me

tow days of soaking. no torch , no breaker bar, not a single cuss. nut spun off and bolt pushed through. the question is where did the bolt go? cant seem to find it but im happy anyway. thankyou to all who have posted the miriad of techniques/remedies that i learned yet didnt require (this time). now its off to the west coast (of fla ) to get the front and rear bearings replaced , the offset arms ,the poly, sway bars, dual mount rear spring etc. this is getting very exciting.

Congrats, I got the nut off each of the bolts but had to saw off the bolts because they wouldnt push through. On your frame there is a triangular renforcement in between the frame rail and the cross section that goes to the other side of the frame. Did you check on top of that?

chris, i have noticed a trend that those of you that live where there is cold nasty winter have alot more trouble wrenching on our ancient machines than those of us who live where its summer all year long. salt from winter roads puts a chemical twist to corrosion and interaction of dissimilar metals that makes it tough to remove things. i will come and help you, but only once the temp climbs over 75 f.

Salt + Water + bolt + inner sleeve = one solid mass of rust that is impossible to seperate.

Same story for me. I found the bolt wedged between the frame crossmember and the body.

FYI: These bolts are basically pins with a small threaded area at the end. The repro bolts are extensively threaded so the threads on the repro bolts will "bite" into the frame. A good source for original bolts are the bolts that hold the differential torque "tongue" onto the differential. These bolts will probably be in pretty good condition; i.e. not rusty. I used these when I installed my new trailing arms (the VBP offset arms).

This is my next project. Could you please go over any superstitious routines you performed in the days preceding your trailing arm removal?

Oh - so someone has already removed it before??

You couldn't drive 5 feet out of St. Louis before those things were welded in - rust or not...

You know, I wouldn't want my trailing arms to come off in 20 minutes. Now you can't share the true experience like the rest of us. Kinda like talking to a soldier who's never been in combat.

(The above commentary spoken solely for the humorous value by someone who's glad the battle is over)

I will tackle this same issue since my car has a mind of its own when accelerating and when letting off on the gas.....wants to go a different direction. But it will have to wait for the new headers, side pipes, stereo, carpet.. And then I will tackle the trailing arm and post pics....

Should only be a couple of weeks.....
